West Coast Fury Storms Past Fusion, Then rolls in State Cup

(Livermore) The West Coast Fury U11 girls team opened their Norcal Premier League season with a huge win over Livermore Fusion Maroon 5-2 this past Saturday.

For the last two years, the Fury girls have battled Fusion’s top team only to come up with a tie or fall short.  But this weekend’s season opener sets a new tone for Fury dominance!  At the opening whistle, the Fury came out strong with good ball control and precision passing.  West Coast’s Bella Romero was first to score with a power shot to the right corner of the goal.

Fusion replied with two goals of their own giving them a 2-1 lead at the half.

Determined to not let this one slip away, West Coast opened the second half scoring 3 goals in the first 5 minutes. Forward Kelena Brongiel came out firing with a quick goal on a breakaway;  Brongiel added a second goal and then center midfielder Kourtney Kessler provided the knock out blow with a volley to the back of the net.

With a 4-2 lead, West Coast easily took control of the remaining minutes of the game.  The defense kept Fusion shots on goal to a minimum.  And, West Coast’s offense just couldn’t be stopped. Romero would add another goal to close out the West Coast scoring. Fury coach Ray Canevari said, "It was satisfying to beat a quality team like Fusion. We respect them, but our girls played a solid game and I couldn't be happier with their effort!"

Gracie Alfonzo, Trinity Sandridge, Celina Garcia, Brongiel, Kessler and Romero were all praised for their outstanding play!

In their second match of the weekend, the West Coast Fury played a Norcal State Cup qualifier against Brentwood Impact.

In the first few minutes of the match, Impact set the tone with a number of fouls in their defending third of the field.  The Fury girls capitalized on this with Kourtney Kessler scoring the first goal off a penalty kick.   The pace of the came quickly changed to West Coast’s favor.  Before the end of the first half, Fury’s Trinity Sandridge, and Kelena Brongiel got three more goals giving West Coast a 4-0 lead.

The offensive assault continued into the second half with four more Fury goals. Brongiel easily powered in a fifth goal on a breakaway.  The sixth goal came from left midfielder Alina Garcia who converted a perfectly placed corner kick from Kate Zeck.

The final two goals came from Bella Romero who was just too strong to stop.  With the 8-0 victory over Impact, the West Coast Fury sits at the top of State Cup rankings.
