What was thought to be the end of an era for the world-famous Centennial Bulb was a false alarm when the bulb flickered back to life this morning.

At every large event like the Amgen race, no matter where it takes place or when, someone will loseRead More money. Someone will be inconvenienced. Someone will have their daily routine disrupted. Someone will not get what they want and someone will not see, appreciate, nor have accurate information about the larger picture and benefits that such an event brings to a town. It is not the city council's job nor event organizer's to cater to every concern of every citizen, merchant, etc. It is their job to consider everything within their purview and maximize the benefits accrued for the town, not individuals. I think the Amgen race in Livermore accomplished that and I'm grateful for it.

@William - The restaurants that I saw at lunch and dinner during the event were absolutely packed.Read More All of the flex seating on the sidewalks on First Street was full. Spanky’s Hot Dogs even added a patio and extra seats to accommodate the crowd. Thousands of people came into our award-winning downtown and I saw a lot of them in our shops. People came from all over the Bay Area and I talked with people from Oregon, Washington and Canada who follow the Tour. They loved Livermore and told me they would be back. Athletes and media came from all over the world and they filled our hotel rooms. Livermore was on the world stage and was broadcast to over 135 countries. It is estimated that the media coverage alone was worth about $200,000. A stage start like ours can bring in over $1 million in economic impact or more. It was great to see the parents and children riding their bikes downtown. The City paid nothing to AEG to bring in the Amgen Tour this year. Local businesses, including Shea Homes, Walgreens, Chevron Energy Systems and the Visit Tri-Valley Visitors’ Bureau recognized the value of the event and covered the up-front costs. The City provided in-kind public safety but most of the event logistics were covered by hundreds of volunteers who love the event.

I am very curious about what the Amgen tour brought to Livermore over the last years that it hasRead More been coming here it has been a cash cow for all but the MERCHANTS and also a pain in the butt for them with the closures of the streets! also how much has the city been paying to have them come here.

The light bulb is back on. Ironically, it was a device that was installed to protect the bulb fromRead More power surges that failed. When the bulb was reconnected to unfiltered power, it came back on.

as well take advantage of it. What I'm talking about is a reasonable rate for charging that isRead More within going rates, not the usurious rates charged by certain companies. I always love the hundred yard heroes who hide behind a false screen name

I'm not a greenie.....the only reason we leased one is, because of the tax loophole on the taxes weRead More already pay, we have an essentially free car for a couple of years. Maybe you're just upset because you weren't smart enough to figure that out and take advantage of it. Just like everyone with their solar panels; if we're all forced to pay for it, you may
Sean McMenamin May 21, 2013 at 10:49 am
Wow. Did I say free?

Rafael and his crew do great work, and not just lawn service. He replaced our sprinkler system andRead More sodded two new lawns when we moved into our house. He and his crew have trimmed trees, planted flowers, and even built a new fence and gate. All at a fair price. I can't recommend his services enough.

Thank you D! We couldn't be happier to have a program like this in our community. We couldn't agreeRead More with you more that giving back is the whole purpose of the program; to make our community a stronger more musical one for our youth!

Kevin and Chris are good guys. They genuinely want to give back and care about introducing as manyRead More kids (young and old) as possible to the incredibly rewarding world of music. I am fortunate enough to have had somebody similar to these guys motivate me to get involved in music when I was a kid. 31 years later, I am still beatin’ on my drums every day. Great job Kev and Chris. Keep it up!
