Livermore Gardener Recognized by YMCA of the East Bay

Lois Barber was given the "You are the Difference" award on Oct. 16.

One of Livermore's residents was recently recognized for her hours of volunteerism.

Lois Barber was presented the "You are the Difference" award by the YMCA of the East Bay at the organization's 134th Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony on Oct. 16.

Barber has been a volunteer at the YMCA Camp Arroyo garden in Livermore for several years now.

"She is always willing to help wherever is needed, no matter what the task is," the program for the event said. "She is a kind woman with a heart of gold and we all wish to have her energy and positive outlook on life when we are in our 80s!"

Barber takes the lead with the YMCA's volunteer groups and shows them the ways of the garden. She also works closely with the location's outdoor education group.

"By the smiles on our student’s faces, we can tell that she is making an impact on their education," the release said. "Not only is Lois a cherished volunteer, managing to sow and transplant hundreds of seeds for our garden bounty, but she comes armed with soil and new seed varieties for us to try out. We are incredibly grateful to Lois for her dedication to our visiting groups and our garden!"
