Hospital Happenings for Monday

Hannah is happy to be back home and enjoying the normalcy of a teenage social life. The home treatments are going well and not impeding on her personal agenda. From the view of a sixteen year old I ' sure contending with the home intravenous antibiotics and diabetic treatment plan is a lot but having the ability to go out to have fun must make it a bit better!

Andrew is still unable to tolerate feedings. It has been quite frustrating to be here, know there is a significant issue but not have a plan. Finally, a GI do for visited Andrew today! The plan is for him to have a surgical procedure at 11:00AM on Wednesday morning that will allow the specialist to look at the esophagus, stomach and upper intestines. If there proves to be an issue, that will be discussed after the procedure. If this is a motility (function) issue than Andrew will require a GJ tube (into the upper intestine opposed to the G-tube which is direct to the stomach) placement until the stomach heals. That can take weeks to months. The blessing is the use of a GJ tube would be temporary. That is a tremendous relief. Those types of tubes are not optimal because they bypass both the mouth and stomach processes of digestion. Over a long period of time patients typically do not thrive. Andrew will likely remain in the hospital until this weekend or next week.

Thank you for the prayers and encouragement! I appreciate those who remain along side us. Ours is not an easy journey but nor was that of Job. Many people judged him and ultimately shunned him. That is sometimes the price for choosing Jesus. He remained faithful and The Lord blessed him. We too will remain faithful and thank God for His mercy and grace through our walk.
