School District Welcomes New Administrators

New staff appointed by the board of education.

Prior to the start of school, the Board of Trustees for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District unanimously approved the appointment of three new administrators to fill vacant positions in the district.

Scott Vernoy will take over as the Director of Student Services, replacing Chris Van Schaack, who was promoted to Assistant Superintendent. Vernoy was most recently the principal at Adams Middle School in Brentwood. Prior to that, Mr. Vernoy worked in Livermore for 10 years as a Vice Principal at and then as principal at . Vernoy has over 22 years of experience in education and is well known as a strong communicator and a person who has high expectations for all students.

Superintendent Kelly Bowers remarked, “We’re very happy to have Scott Vernoy back in Livermore. He brings a passion for education and strong sense of purpose to our team.”

Josh Swerdlow will take over as the new vice principal at . Swerdlow is in his 10th year as an administrator, having recently served as a vice principal in San Jose. Swerdlow is enthusiastic about his new job, “I feel really fortunate to be able to continue my career at such a great school and in a district that supports innovation and looking at things in a new way.”

His teaching background is in mathematics and he has experience at both the middle and high school levels. He earned his Masters degree in education from Cal State Dominguez Hills prior to relocating to Northern California. Swerdlow joins Vice Princpals PJ Daley, Pat Avilla and Principal Philomena Rambo.

Following five outstanding years of teaching in the social science department at Granada High, Brian Poynter will move across town and take over as vice principal at . Poynter sees this as an excellent opportunity to help build the collaborative nature between the schools.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Principal Avilla and his staff,” Poynter states, “and believe that I can help build upon some of the great things that are already going on there.”

Poynter joins an administrative team that includes Principal Darrel Avilla, Vice Principal Shelly Kacinski, and Vice Principal Anne Harter-Dolid.
