Woman Gambling Inside Livermore Casino Arrested, Suspected of Leaving Toddlers Alone in Car

Information submitted by Livermore Police:

On Sunday, July 20, 2014 at approximately 6:09 p.m., the Livermore Police Department received a call that two small children were left unattended in a locked vehicle in the 900 block of North Canyons Parkway.

When Officers arrived on scene they discovered two children, ages 2 and 3, had  been left unattended and were still strapped into their car seats. The children’s mother, Phaley Nget, 37, was gambling inside Casino 580.

Although the children were not injured, Nget was placed under arrest for child endangerment and transported to Santa Rita Jail. The children were taken into protective custody.

Although the above story is extreme, the Livermore Police Department wishes to remind the public that leaving children unattended in a vehicle even for a minute is not safe. On a 60 degree day, a car's internal temperature can quickly reach well above 110 degrees in just a few minutes. 

Children's body heat regulatory systems are less efficient than an adult's, causing them to overheat 3 to 5 times faster. Injuries due to hyperthermia (heatstroke) from being left in a hot car can cause ailments that can include permanent brain injury, blindness and the loss of hearing to name a few.
