Vegetation Fire in North Livermore

A fire Saturday morning in North Livermore sent heavy smoke over much of the Tri-Valley.

A 240-acre grass fire that blackened a wide swath of the golden hills north of Springtown Saturday morning appeared to be under control as of noon.

From emergency scanner traffic, it appears that two firefighters may have suffered injuries, one of which was reportedly heat exhaustion.

At around 10:30 a.m. multiple fire units responded to the blaze, which was located on North Vasco Road near Los Vaqueros Road. It sent a wide cloud of heavy white smoke south across the Valley into south Pleasanton.

According to Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant, at one point there was a structure at risk, but Berlant said it
was in a very remote area and fortunately it did not catch fire.

"With the high temperatures and low humidity, the fire was able to
rapidly spread," Berlant said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Berlant said crews would be on the scene all afternoon working on
containment and mop up.
