Two Arrested After Report of Burglary, Man Brandishing Gun

No gun found after Livermore Police search Chestnut Street area.

A Tracy man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of brandishing a handgun after he and a teenage girl broke into a north Livermore apartment, Sgt. Keith Graves said.

In addition, the 18-year-old and 16-year-old Livermore girl both face burglary charges. The man also had an outstanding warrant for auto theft, Graves said.

Witnesses told police the two broke into a laundry area of an apartment complex on the 300 block of North Livermore Avenue.

A resident of the apartment, who police said heard a "crashing noise," went to check the area and saw the girl and man inside the laundry room. The Tracy man then reportedly pointed a handgun at the resident, who then fled, Graves said.

The two were seen running toward North Oak Street.

Police were notified of the incident at about 8:20 p.m. and were given a description of the suspects.

Shortly after a description of the suspects was broadcasted to police. An officer patrolling the 2200 block of Chestnut Street stopped a man that matched the description.

He was detained at gunpoint by the officer, Graves said. The teenage girl was also detained at the scene.

The arresting officer also heard the sound of metal falling onto the street prior to detaining the man, who was later identified by witnesses as the suspect.

No weapon was found on the man and about eight officers surrounded a nearby apartment complex searching for the possible weapon.

Police used a metal detector around nearby bushes and a Pleasanton K-9 unit assisted in the search.

No weapon was found and police cleared the scene at about 9:30 p.m.

However, police discovered a wood bat hidden in one of the nearby bushes. The bat is unrelated to the incident.

The Chestnut Street area in north Livermore is one of the more crime-ridden neighborhoods in town.

Graves said gang members in the area tend to hide weapons in bushes so that they are easily accessible during fights.
