Suspected Drunken Driver Survives Being Thrown 70 Feet in Crash

Police say the driver would have had only minor injuries if he had been wearing his seatbelt.

Information from the Livermore Police Department--

On 06/28/13, at 1938 hours, LPD Dispatch received a call of a major injury collision on Las Positas Road, just west of the Plaza 580 shopping center.  Responding officers found that a Ford sedan being driven by Livermore resident Marcos Garcia (09/08/72) was driving westbound on Las Positas Road at a high rate of speed.

For reasons unknown, his vehicle crossed over the eastbound traffic lane and left the roadway.  The Ford drove through a fence and entered a field on the south side of the roadway.  The Ford rolled over several times in the field.  Garcia was not properly seatbelted in the vehicle and was ejected from
the Ford.  Garcia traveled at least 70 feet and over a 6 foot fence before landing in a second fence on the west side of the driveway of 4001 Las Positas Road.

Garcia was airlifted to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.  Garcia was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and was cited and released at the hospital.  Garcia’s injuries are not life threatening.

Investigators believe that if Garcia had been properly restrained in the Ford he would have suffered only minor injuries in the collision. Las Positas Rd. was closed for several hours while the collision was investigated and the Ford was removed from the field.
