UPDATE: Pregnant Pedestrian Struck While in Crosswalk

The 32-year-old woman was taken to the hospital and released with minor injuries after being hit while walking on Scenic Avenue, according to police officials.

A pregnant Livermore woman sustained minor injuries after she was hit by a car while she was walking in the crosswalk on Scenic Avenue on Monday morning.

On Dec. 16, the 32-year-old pedestrian was hit by a driver who had been driving southbound on Broadmoor Street, according to Livermore Police Officer Traci Rebiejo. Rebiejo says that around 8:13 a.m., the driver stopped at the four-way stop and then turned eastbound on Scenic Avenue when the car struck the pedestrian.

"Witnesses say the pedestrian flew into the air, landing on her back," Rebiejo said. "She was taken to a local hospital and was released with minor injuries. The driver, a 44-year-old from Livermore, said she did not see the pedestrian due to the sun."

A witness told Patch that the pedestrian, who said she was pregnant, was worried and kept asking if she had landed on her stomach after she had been hit.

The witness, who asked to remain anonymous because she does not want to further upset her daughter who also witnessed the collision, wrote, via email:

"The lady was half way down the cross walk when she got hit. My daughter and I witnessed this lady flew up in the air and land. The lady driving did not stop as soon as she hit her; she went right through her and stopped a house down."

Rebiejo says that although this collision was not the pedestrian's fault, it does serve as a good reminder to both drivers and pedestrians.

"Pedestrians are so vulnerable, they have to be hypervigilant of drivers," Rebiejo said. "Parents need to teach kids that as pedestrians they have to act as if they are invisible."

In June, four pedestrians in Livermore were hit in two days by four cars.
