New Police Officers To Be Sworn In While Honoring Resident

Two reserve officers will be sworn in and Livermore resident Michael Lause, who was the recipient of lung tissue from a fallen Richmond officer, will be recognized.

Information from the Livermore Police Department--

Interim Police Chief Randy Sonnenberg will be officially swearing in two new police officer’s and one new reserve police officer on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Police Community Room at the Police Department. Mayor John Marchand and Vice Mayor Stewart Gary will also be in attendance.

At this same time, we are honored to place on display in the police department lobby a beautiful quilt owned by Livermore Resident Michael Lause.

The Livermore Police Department is recognizing Michael who, in the fall of 2008, and because of the generosity and forethought of a young police officer from the City of Richmond — Officer Brad Moody, 29, a fallen officer killed in the line of duty — Michael had a double lung transplant.

Michael says “I wouldn’t have made it to Halloween if it hadn’t been for Officer Brad Moody. Lungs are size-specific, and being 6 feet 8 inches tall made it even more difficult. Officer Moody was a big man with a big heart. I am fortunate and honored to have been his donorrecipient.”

Michael says he not only feels honored but believes he has a responsibility to Officer Moody and his family, whom Michael has met; as well as other police officers, whoput their lives on the line helping others. Michael speaks regularly for the California Transplant Donor Network at schools, hospitals, police associations and special events about his experience and the importance of planning ahead if you want to be a donor. We invite the community to come and meet Michael and see his quilt in honor of Fallen Officer Brad Moody.

The quilt will be on display in the Police Department lobby beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 through Friday May 31, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
