Livermore police are investigating why a man was shot in the face.

Police are investigating how a man found at a freeway ramp suffered a gunshot wound to his face.

At 6:10 a.m. this morning, the unidentified man was seen by a passer-by standing with his injuries on westbound Interstate 580 near the Portola Avenue off ramp, according to Lt. Mike Peretti.

"The gentleman was still alive and the passer-by rendered aid and drove him to a hospital," Peretti said.
