Information from the Livermore Police Department—

On Saturday, December 7, 2013, about 10:00 a.m., Detectives from the Livermore
Police Department arrested Andrew Michael Nisbet, who resides in Livermore, for
multiple sexual abuse charges. The arrest stemmed from an extensive sexual abuse investigation.

The investigation so far has revealed that the sexual abuse occurred in Livermore between 2009 and 2012. Nisbet was employed at the Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore as the PGA Golf Pro from 2006 to present as a coach for children.

While employed at the Las Positas Golf Course, it is suspected that Nisbet sexually
assaulted multiple male children between the ages of 12 and 17 years old. Nisbet
was a highly regarded Junior Golf Coach who coached many children in junior golf
tournaments throughout the State of California, as well as nationally. LPD detectives discovered that Nisbet coached children in Michigan, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama.

On Thursday, December 5, 2013, LPD Detectives presented the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney filed 65 counts of the listed charges. Since Nisbet’s arrest, an additional victim has been located. LPD Detectives informed Las Positas Golf Course of Nisbet’s arrest. Las Positas Golf Course terminated Nisbet’s employment immediately.

According to police officials, Nisbet was arrested on the following charges:
  • Penal Code 288a(c)(2)(a) – Oral Copulation by Force.
  • Penal Code 288a(b)(2) – Oral Copulation of a Person under age 16, Suspect over 21.
  • Penal Code 288a(b)(1) – Oral Copulation of a Person under age 18.
  • Penal Code 288(c)(1) – Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child age 14 or 15 years.
  • Penal Code 288(a) – Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under the age of 14.
  • Penal Code 288.2(a) – Distribution or Exhibition of Lewd Material to a Minor.
  • Penal Code 288.2(b) – Distribution or Exhibition of Lewd Material to a Minor.
  • Penal Code 288.4(a) – Arrangement of Meeting with a Minor for the Purpose of Engaging in Lewd and Lascivious Behavior.
  • Penal Code 288.4(b) – Meeting with a Minor for the Purpose of Engaging in Lewd and Lascivious Behavior.
The investigation into the sexual abuse is ongoing. LPD encourages parents to speak with their children if they had contact with Nisbet. If anyone has information about this case, they are encouraged to call the Livermore Police Department at (925) 294-7531.

am I surprised? I wish I weren't... this perversion seems rampant in today's society
mike December 10, 2013 at 06:22 PM
Are there not any institutions left in American society that have not been tarnished by these type's of scandals? sadly, no!.
Becky December 10, 2013 at 06:33 PM
It does seem to be rampant. What's wrong with society? Maybe we just hear about it more now because it's actually reported and stopped.
Michael Delfino December 10, 2013 at 06:50 PM
I think Becky just nailed it. Human nature hasn't changed in thousands of years. The per capita number of predators is I'm sure the same or even down over the years. I think two things have changed: A) the over saturation of news coverage so you hear about it over and over and over again. Not always necessarily a bad thing, but can certainly create an unwarranted panic at times. B) More willingness from the victims to report the crime. It wasn't that long ago that when a woman got raped, if she went to her community leaders (which were often religious institutions), the advice she got was to be a better wife or girlfriend. So yeah, is it HAPPENING more now? Or just being brought to life more now? If it's the latter, that's a good thing...
Michael Delfino December 10, 2013 at 06:51 PM
Pardon me, that was meant to read "brought to light more now" at the end.
Matt December 10, 2013 at 08:00 PM
Truth is we don't know the answer to that question. What I do know is this guy is scum. My kids have participated in some of the junior programs at Las Positas, though not in the programs where Andy had individual contact with them. Still, I now have to ask them questions to be safe. A few weeks ago, one of the other instructors even recommended my son join the program in question. I'm sick about this, and I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for parents whose children did have individual contact with Andy.
Lisa Jensen-Rash December 10, 2013 at 08:37 PM
I believe that we hear more of it because those that are being attacked and taken advantage of have learned that it's okay for them to step forward when this sort of thing happens to them.. This is just plain disgusting and sad! Job well done LPD for getting this creep away from children and anyone else he has or may have harmed. Now to just lock this POS away in the general public prison system and let them know why he has been locked away!
TrueRealist December 10, 2013 at 08:53 PM
@Delfino - Society has changed and you see it more. It's a combination of both. Pretty simple to see that society has changed. Look at Leave it to Beaver vs what's on TV today. Pretty simple conclusion really. PS - this guy is a dirtbag and I hope the families see justice.

Golf Coach Arrested on Eve of Award Banquet http://dublin.patch.com/groups/police-and-fire/p/golf-coach-arrested-on-eve-of-award-banquet
Bing Bing December 10, 2013 at 10:17 PM
If this guy was to win an award....it would be for the most perverted Grimey that ever was in this city. Like dude come one now, 65 counts of sexual assault? Really? We come so far with technology that we can't even do background checks....welcome to the 21st century. Just his picture makes this creep look guilty....what has gotten into society these days where all I see on the news is some other scummy savage that totally disregard socially acceptable morals and ethics, since when did rape, murder, and harassment become the new status-quo? Just pointing it as I see it.
Michael Delfino December 10, 2013 at 11:37 PM
No doubt, if he is in fact guilty, these types are the scum of society... In fairness though, when was the last time you saw a mug shot that made the guy look like a "good guy" haha... I still do contend that human nature is the same as it ever was. People were raping, stealing, killing 50 years ago as Leave it to Beaver was on tv in the background, just like they were 1000 years ago during the Crusades or 2000 years before that building the pyramids. One thing that is different today is there is a certain glamorization to criminal acts now in some circles of society.

Has anyone else watched his golf academy promo? It ends with a dark screen...."keep it nasty" I believe the title of the clip is called "The Quest"
Terry December 11, 2013 at 09:34 AM
He is/was a City employee. City government doesn't know how to hire.
Terry December 11, 2013 at 09:45 AM
One city department "police department" arrests pedophile suspect in another city department "golf course". Yes that's correct. City of Livermore owns Las Positas golf course.
Spike H December 11, 2013 at 10:39 AM
Jeezus...plenty of adults out there giving it away and you have to pick on kids...
Bryon Bruce December 11, 2013 at 10:44 AM
I wonder who molested this Nisbet guy? That is how this started.
Bryon Bruce December 11, 2013 at 10:45 AM
What is the solution? We know how it began.
John Marchand December 11, 2013 at 11:57 AM
@Terry – Andrew Nisbet has never been an employee of the City of Livermore. Yes, the golf course land is owned by the City and it is operated as an enterprise. However, its operations are performed by three separate, privately-owned businesses which contract those operations to the City. Those businesses are the pro shop, the restaurant and the landscaping. The DeBenedetti’s run the pro shop and Nisbet worked for them, not the City. Last year, when the City sought bids for the golf course enterprise, dozens of golf course patrons spoke in glowing terms of Mr. Nisbet and the youth program which is operated through the pro shop. The public also spoke in favor of continuing the operations through the current contractors and not operating the golf course through the City. This predatory type of activity is insidious and parents must be vigilant. Mr. Delfino is correct, these types of people have always been among us.
Maurice Duenas December 11, 2013 at 04:07 PM
Thank you mayor for clearing that up. Even if Nisbet had had a background check on him he would have been cleared, as he has no prior record. Just like all the coaches that have ever been arrested in all of the various sports - background checks are a fallacy and do nothing. Also, remember that Nisbet is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Lawyer Says Golf Coach Facing 30 Years to Life for Sexual Abuse http://livermore.patch.com/groups/police-and-fire/p/lawyer-says-golf-coach-facing-30-years-to-life-for-sexual-abuse-livermore
Michael Delfino December 11, 2013 at 04:37 PM
As Maurice said, you can't blame the golf course or the hiring manager for hiring this creep unless he has prior convictions. What red flags would have been brought up in a background investigation? While yes, there's an excellent chance this isn't the first time he's done something like this, if there's no way of knowing, there isn't anything that could have been done. It's also important not to paint everyone at the golf course, or every golf instructor, etc. with that same brush. As a martial arts instructor, I've witnessed it first hand with instructors getting busted for everything from running illegal day care out of their schools (which Livermore has a couple of right now), to sexual abuse (which Livermore has also experienced in the past). Whenever an instructor gets arrested for stuff like this, I've noticed a corresponding drop in new business for a bit, despite the fact that neither me or anyone in my organization has ever been accused of anything. It's not fair, just a fact of life. Don't let yourself fall for the hysteria and take your kid out of every activity. Just use common sense...

Here's the thing: Minors believe that they cannot get hurt, and yet want to come into their own individuality as young adults in their adolescence. They do not see themselves as walking targets of easy prey to those who are malicious. So to those who know better--to adults who are responsible for minors--they choose to be present (mentally and physically). It at least scares off the "living demon," who cares not that the life harmed is a younger version of themselves on some level--a human being. To harm a child, one literally has to severely devalue him/her and life. Adolescents/pre-teens/teens really like freedom; it's appealing to have privacy, and, boy, to be trusted by grown-ups is an ego boost on top of that. Once the man is convicted, I don't know how he will be "rehabilitated" or have his brain wired differently; he will still be sexually stimulated by the same thing. And sex offenders tend to have been victims of sexual abuse. SO now you have all those minors who need therapy--their lives are forever affected--and may or may not be able to afford it.
