UPDATE: Grass Fire Contained, I-580 Sig-Alert Lifted

No injuries or property damage reported in 1.5 acre blaze west of Stonecut Overpass near Tracy.

A grass fire Monday afternoon sparked the California Highway Patrol to issue a temporary sig-alert on eastbound Interstate 580, just west of the Stonecut Overpass near Tracy.

The 1.5 acres blaze was contained at about 2:30 p.m., said Aisha Knowles, spokeswoman for the Alameda County Fire Department.

The Camp Parks Fire Department and Cal Fire crews also helped battle the blaze, Knowles said.

In addition, a Cal Fire helicopter was called to the scene.

During the fire, smoke caused visibility issues on the freeway, which prompted the CHP to issue a sig-alert at 1:21 p.m. The far right, slow lane was closed during the fire to allow emergency crews to battle the blaze.
