Body of Man Who Drowned in Lake Del Valle Recovered

Michael Perez' body was found on June 20 near Oak Point Picnic area.

Information from East Bay Regional Parks--

On Thursday June 20, 2013, at about 11:15 a.m., lifeguards at Del Valle East Beach located the body of Michael Perez in the waters of Lake Del Valle.  Perez was located approximately 100 feet off the west shoreline, near the Oak Point Picnic area.

On June 16, 2013, Perez and his sister had been on a kayak in the lake when Perez took off his life jacket and started to swim.  His sister said he asked for her to throw him his life jacket and he went underwater.  He never resurfaced.  Lifeguards and search teams from the East Bay Regional Park District and Alameda County sheriffs searched on Sunday and Monday, but did not locate the victim. Park District staff continued to search the shoreline on subsequent days.

Park staff on Thursday secured the scene near the shoreline of Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore while other emergency personnel responded and recovered Perez’s body. The Alameda County Coroner Deputies then took custody of the deceased man.
