56 Calls for Emergency Services on Fourth of July for Fire Personnel

Fire responders were prepared for any heat-related or fireworks emergencies in both Livermore and Pleasanton for the holiday and say that overall, the 4th of July was quite a quiet one.

Information from the Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department--

The LPFD did not respond to any major emergencies directly related to the 4th of July.  The LPFD received 56 requests for emergency services during the 24 hour period.

The LPFD also provided resources to two separate special events.
In anticipation of large crowds, and high temperatures, the LPFD staged one Engine Company at Shadow Cliffs Park from 9:00AM – 3:00PM.  The LPFD staged an engine at the park due to the greatly increased risk of medical or fire related emergencies. This engine was staged in addition to the East Bay Regional Parks District Fire and Police Departments.

The LPFD also committed resources to the Livermore Fire Works show at the Las Positas College.  An anticipated crowd of 15,000 spectators, high temperatures, and an aerial fireworks display required the commitment of one Chief Officer, two Fire Prevention Personnel, two Engine Companies, one special event EMS Cart (golf cart style vehicle capable of providing advance life support and transport of a patient to an awaiting ambulance from within crowded or congested area), and a Hazardous Materials Unit that provided elevated exit lighting for public safety. A total of 14 LPFD personnel were committed to the event from 4:00PM – 10:00PM.

The LPFD responded to medical emergencies, and quickly extinguished a small grass fire during the fireworks display.

Editor's Note:

Nearby in Dublin, firefighters responded to a small vegetation fire on the Iron Horse Trail during the 4th of July holiday.
