Please help to stop forced organ harvesting and protect Americans.

In last Wed. evening (8/22) town hall meeting at Las Positas College held by Congressman Eric Swalwell,  my friends and I submitted 1000+ signatures from local citizens for a petition to urge Rep. Swalwell to cosponsor H.Res.281, which was introduced by Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., and Congressman Robert Andrews, D-N.J. on June 27, 2013.  This resolution expresses concern over persistent and credible reports of systematic, state-sanctioned organ harvesting from non-consenting prisoners of conscience in China, including from large numbers of Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned for their religious beliefs, as well as numbers of other religious and ethnic minority groups.

According to China Daily report, Chinese hospitals perform up to 20,000 transplants every year, and more than 90 percent of the organs come from prisoners. Amnesty International conservatively estimates that there are 1,700 executions annually in China. (No one knows the exact numbers of prisoners executed, as this is considered a state secret.) Despite the gap between transplants and executions, wait times for organs are unusually short compared with the West, and transplant procedures are even made in advance. With voluntary organ donations being essentially nonexistent in China due to traditional beliefs, who, then, makes up this large pool of donors? The evidence suggests that it is practitioners of Falun Gong, a meditation system based on ancient Chinese principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance. For example, the number of organ transplants in China increased significantly after 1999, corresponding with the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong. When questioned by undercover investigators, surgeons have unknowingly admitted to having used or being able to obtain vital organs from Falun Gong practitioners. About two-thirds of those in China's jails and labor camps are Falun Gong practitioners. More evidence is showed in the following books:

The book < Bloody Harvest: Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China> is written by two Canadian international human rights lawyers who did independent investigation on forced organ harvesting;

The book <State Organs: Transplant Abuse in China> lines up 12 experts with international reputation in their fields to verify the allegation of the practice of organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience and the general prison population in China from different angles.

There are many Falun Gong practitioners living in CA-15th district and some of our relatives and friends are still persecuted in Chinese jails including my dear dad, my dad was sentenced for 4 years just because he practiced Falun Gong and he is still detained in Chinese jail and tortured now, it’s very possible that they will become the unwilling organ donors and killed for that in China.

H.Res.281 is not just about China. As American patients continue to travel to China for organ transplants and the medical community continues cooperation and training with Chinese doctors, this resolution will help our country's doctors, patients, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and universities make informed decisions and take a righteous stance regarding organ transplantation and beyond, while avoiding becoming an accomplice to this heinous crime.

So far there are 88 Congressional representatives co-sponsor H.Res.281, we urge all the readers to contact your representatives in Congress and ask them to cosponsor this crucial piece of legislation.
