Butte County DA: Chesterman Assault Case is Solid!

Oroville, CA. On Friday June 28, Judge Steven Howell received the Police report and evidence submitted by the Butte County District Attorney's office in the case against Rodney Freeman. Freeman stands accused of Battery with Great Bodily Harm against Daniel Chesterman of Livermore, CA.

Freeman waived his right to challenge any evidence submitted by police in the morning court session, but Freeman's attorney did request a continuance, which was denied.

Mike Ramsey, the Butte County District Attorney has assigned Deputy D.A. Jacqueline Devlin to the case. Rodney Freeman is represented by attorney Michael Rooney.

When asked, Ramsey asserted that the case against Freeman was solid in his opinion. Evidence submitted to Judge Howell was limited to that evidence collected by the Chico Police Department along with their report.

Rodney Freeman, 18, is accused of having assaulted Daniel Chesterman on February 8, 2013. Chesterman was admitted to the Enloe Hospital with a shattered eye socket, a shattered cheek bone and a broken nose. Since that day, Chesterman has undergone several operations inserting titanium plates in an effort to reconstruct his face.

Freeman had also stood accused of Battery with Great Bodily Harm with a weapon other than a fire-arm, but those charges were dropped in Friday's hearing.

Judge Howell will read the evidences submitted by Deputy DA Devlin and is scheduled to decide on August 16 if the case will proceed to trial.
