Committee Optimistic of Meeting April 1 Deposit Deadline

Nearly 200 community members gathered to raise money to bring back the Livermore fireworks.

Nearly 200 community members gathered March 22 in the Cresta Blanca room at the and purchased entrance tickets, "I Helped Bring Back the Livermore Fireworks" t-shirts, and arm's length after arm's length of raffle tickets to raise money to bring back the annual 4th of July fireworks in Livermore. The final amount raised will be available in the next few day, but committee members are optimistic that enough was raised to meet the April 1 deadline for the fireworks deposit.

People tasted Flaca's Salsa and Gerard'Z Honey in addition to the tasty bruschetta from  and tempting salad from The Winemaker's.

Livermore Mayor John Marchand poured wines from  for guests as they also sampled  and Little Valley wines and Sierra Nevada Beer. Roger Kardinal provided the enjoyable entertainment during the evening's festivities and closed with his signature cover of American Pie.

Since not all the t-shirts were purchased, Livermore City Council Member Stu Gary and his wife Cindy (who donated the t-shirts) will sell the remaing t-shirts at various locations around town during the next few weeks. Watch this space to learn when and where.

Bringing back the traditional July 4th fireworks is a joint effort between the , , and the community committee. By reallocating expenses for police and public works, the City of Livermore has greatly reduced the amount of private funding (ie donations and sponsorships) needed to bring back the July 4th festivities which makes the effort even feasible.

Much more still needs to be raised, but committee chairperson Wendy Weathers plans on reporting at the next committee meeting that the fireworks deposit is ready to be made.
