10 Ways to Save Energy!

1. Not using your thermostat-summer has reached its peak, so rather than hitting up the AC, open your windows and let the breeze come in.

2. Energy Star Appliances-not only will you save money in the long-run, but it will also decrease expenses in products such as your laundry detergent, allowing you to use less. If you think it's time for an upgrade, consider an efficient appliance.

3. Home Electronics-children are returning to school so the video game consoles or chargers don't need to be plugged in while they are away from home. Taking the time to unplug the extra things can add up.

4. Energy Efficient Light bulbs-studies have shown that 90% of a conventional light bulb's energy is given off in heat (which is why it gets hot in your home). Replacing light bulbs with CFL's are a great way of saving money (and energy!) without breaking your wallet.

5. Conserving Water-did you know that when you leave the faucet, even if it's off, set to the warm side, your water heater still heats up the water? Fix those leaky faucets, and is it really necessary to watch the water run while you brush your teeth?

6. Use your resources at hand-there are actually a lot of things free in this world, like the sun! Artificial light from small appliances are no match for the amount of light that the sun brings in. Ditch the lamp and open up the curtains. That uses no electricity at all. On a nice warm day, hang some clothes outside, rather than using the dryer.

7. Closing Doors-seems like a waste of money and energy if the AC is on, but a door is wide open (especially if it lets warmer air IN). Keep it all in and it could even save you time from turning on the AC again.

8. Insulation-although not a "small tip", but if you happen to be doing some remodeling, you should consider an efficient insulation (carbon fiber works great!) and will last a long time. It keeps what you want in, and what you don't want, out!

9. Time-Conscious-to save energy, consider washing your clothes before or after 7 in the evening and mornings to avoid peak-hour rates.

10. Being Aware-making a conscious effort to reduce your carbon footprint makes a difference. Take the time to look at things as a whole, so add up turning off the lights unused, or using cold water instead for the clothes, because it ultimately benefits you in the end.
