The Amgen Tour Guide

Information to help plan your day when the Amgen Tour of California rolls into town.

The Amgen Tour of California will soon be wheeling through Livermore en route to San Jose.

If you're one of the 30,000-plus cycling fans expected to attend Wednesday's , here's a rundown of information to help you plan your day.

Course Route

The race starts at 11:45 a.m. at the corner of First and L streets, heading east with a parade loop through downtown Livermore along South Livermore Avenue, Third Street, north on P Street and then back to First Street.

Next, the cyclists will ride along East Avenue, Vasco Road and then Patterson Pass Road. After the Cross Road loop, riders will emerge on Tesla Road with a final turn on Mines Road as they head for San Jose via challenging Mount Hamilton. 

Spectators are welcome all along the route.

Parking

Parking is available for visitors at the downtown parking structure on Railroad Avenue or along any of the surface streets on Fourth Street and beyond.

Downtown Festivities

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening with a t in downtown Livermore. Tonight's event will feature bike-themed food, drinks and art. For more information, click here.

Race-day festivities begin at about 9 a.m. with activities that include a Breakaway from Cancer survivors walk, merchandise sales and crew alley, where you can get up close and personal with the team crews.

Road Closures

No parking is allowed on the following Livermore route streets:

  • Vasco Road to Patterson Pass Road
  • Patterson Pass Road to Cross Road
  • Cross Road to Tesla Road 
  • Tesla Road to Mines Road

Towing of parked cars will begin at 9 a.m., according to city officials.

Here are the scheduled street closures:

  • First Street (between P Street and South Livermore Avenue) - 8 a.m.
  • South Livermore Avenue (between First and Third streets) - 8 a.m.
  • Third Street (between South Livermore Avenue and P Street) - 8 a.m.
  • P Street (between First and Third streets) - 8 a.m.
  • East Avenue (between South Livermore and Hillcrest avenues) - 11:15 a.m.
  • East Avenue (between Hillcrest Avenue and Vasco Road) - 11:30 a.m.
  • Vasco Road (between Patterson Pass and Tesla roads) - 11:45 a.m.
  • Patterson Pass Road (between Vasco and Greenville roads) - 11:45 a.m.

Roads will reopen shortly after the cyclists have passed, officials said.
