Two-Day 'Octobear Affaire' Takes Place This Weekend

Good News Bears invites residents to come shop for a good cause.

Start thinking about Christmas gifts without forgetting about Halloween this weekend.

On October 12 and 13, from 11 am to 4pm, the Good News Bears are holding their biggest fundraising event of the year at Alden Lane Nursery.

The Octobear Affaire includes handmade artist bears for sale, a scarecrow decorating contests, children’s games, and a raffle with gift baskets.

The nonprofit group aims at distributing "stuffed love" or teddy bears to those in need. This year alone, the group expects to gift more than 15,000 stuffed animals to local hospitals, emergency cars, shelters and more. More than 60 organizations are on the regular distribution list, including the Blue Star Moms, Axis Health Care, Valley Memorial Hospital, Livermore’s Veteran’s Hospital and Shepherd’s Gate.

Octobear Affaire is the main fundraiser for the Good News Bears. Drawing tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, or 25 for $20. There are artist collectible bears that will appeal to collectors of all ages, and will be available at great prices.

Have a bear or other stuffed animal to donate? Bring them to the event! Good News Bears accepts donations of stuffed critters, Beanie Baby-size and up that are nearly new and in good condition. Receive free drawing tickets when you bring donations.
