Great Escape: Welcome Spring With a Getaway to Bodega Bay

Travel to the UC Bodega Marine Lab for a tour of coastal, underwater studies and visit the site of scenes from Hitchcock's 'The Birds.'

Alfred Hitchcock filmed some of the most popular scenes of the 1963 movie "The Birds" near Bodega Bay.

Off the coast of Bodega Bay, the marine environments have lured scientists since about 1920. In 1966, the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory (BML), opened in Bodega Bay under the leadership of founding director Prof. Cadet Hammond Hand Jr.

Today, BML’s public education and hourlong docent-led tours for up to 10 people, are held on Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. Group tours of up to 40 people are scheduled throughout the week by reservation. Visitors are treated to many marine aquarium displays, a harbor aquarium, and a round aquarium that exhibits anemones and other marine organisms. Call BML at 707-875-2211 to schedule a group tour. A minimal fee is charged for the group tour.
