The Livermore community has been rallying to help raise money for the family of a local teen who has been battling cystic fibrosis.

Hannah Hewitt is not just one of the 30,000 kids in the United States with CF; Hewitt and her family's situation is unique ... theirs is a story of perseverance despite numerous obstacles.

Hewitt, 16, is one of seven children in the Hewitt family. Four of their children are adopted and four of the children have special needs or disabilities. On top of the challenges the family faces with their children's health issues, their dream home has become a nightmare full of repairs.

The Hewitt family bought the home, located between Livermore and Tracy, in 2013. The home, first thought to be the perfect place for all of the children, turned out to have mold and many other structural problems that they believe may be contributing to Hewitt's sudden and rapid health decline.

To date, the Hewitt's told Patch they have spent $80,000 in repairs. While the home is being remodeled, the large family is living in a trailer.

In an attempt to raise funds to help the Hewitts with medical costs not covered by their health insurance and to help fix their home so it is safe and habitable, a yard sale fundraiser will be held on June 21 and June 22.

"Donations of gently used and new items are appreciated," Beth Hewitt said. "Bring items to 855 Hanover Street in Livermore."

Juan Carlos films recently posted a Youtube video about Hewitt's fight. "Fight Like a Girl- Team Hannah" is a 16 minute video profiling Hewitt's struggles and the Hewitt family's life.

A fundraiser for the Hewitt family was held on May 21 at Sauced BBQ & Spirits in Livermore.  A fundraiser page has also been created to help the Hewitt family. Click here to donate to Team Hannah.
