UPDATE: Airplane Damaged in Emergency Landing

A pilot and his passenger are safe Wednesday night after making an emergency landing at  that left a wing of their plane severely damaged, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department's Joe Testa said.

At 8:05 p.m., firefighters were called to the airport's main runway after the pilot of the plane requested emergency crews to standby for a landing.

The pilot reported problems with the plane's landing gear and was able to circle over the airport until fire crews arrived on scene.

At 8:15 p.m. the plane descended and landed at the airport's main runway.

Testa said the landing gear on the plane's left wing was angled, causing the wing to partially collapse during the landing.

"The landing gear went up through the left side of the plane," Testa said.

Testa said the two men are not from the area and were likely training during the flight.
