Toxic Smoke Warning Issued For East Bay
Officials say a fire at a warehouse in Concord has sent potentially toxic smoke into the East Bay atmosphere
Contra Costa County officials are warning East Bay residents that toxic smoke may be drifting over their neighborhoods today.
The warning was prompted by a fire early Wednesday morning at a Concord warehouse, according to a story in the San Francisco Chronicle.
The four-alarm fire on Stanwell Drive broke out just after midnight and was brought under control about 9 a.m. However, the building is expected to smolder until at least the early afternoon.
Fire officials said the blaze has sent smoke and a strong odor of burning plastic across East Bay communities.
Contra Costa health officials issued an advisory for people with respiratory problems to avoid the area and keep the windows in their homes closed, the Chronicle reported.
In Walnut Creek, a haze could be seen over Mount Diablo at 10 a.m. Wednesday and the smell of burning plastic was detectable in the air.
