Police Issue Warning About Using Fireworks in Livermore

Police remind residents that even "Safe and Sane" fire works are illegal.

Information from Livermore Police Department--

The Livermore Police Department is reminding community members that all fireworks are illegal in the City of Livermore.  This includes “Safe and Sane” type fireworks that may be legal to purchase in other cities.

The Livermore Police Department will have extra officers working on the Fourth of July, and these officers will be looking for fireworks violations.

It is unlawful for any person to give away, sell, offer for sale, solicit the sale of, possess, purchase, use, ignite, explode, fire, or otherwise discharge any fireworks within the city of Livermore (Livermore Municipal Code (LMC) 9.40.020).  Any member of the Livermore Police Department or the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department will seize any fireworks located in Livermore, and the owner may be charged for the cost of destroying the fireworks (LMC 9.40.050).

Police Officers finding persons in possession of fireworks will be issuing
that person a citation for a misdemeanor offense with a fine of up to $500 and jail time of up to 30 days in county jail (LMC 9.40.060).

Anyone found to be possessing fireworks that aren’t of the “Safe and Sane” variety, such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortars, roman candles, or anything that flies/shoots through the air will be cited for Health and Safety Code 12702(b).  This citation can lead to a $1000 fine and up to one year in county jail.

The Police Department is asking for the community’s cooperation in keeping this Fourth of July holiday a safe one, by not possessing or using any fireworks in Livermore.  There will be a community fireworks display held at Las Positas College on the 4th of July.
