Livermore Pediatrician Killed in Car Accident

Dr. Robert Barnett of Kaiser Permanente Livermore died Sept. 6.

A 59-year-old Livermore pediatrician was killed over the weekend in a car accident.

Livermore Patch was alerted to the accident when Facebook readers said they had received phone calls from Kaiser Permanente canceling appointments due to Dr. Robert Barnett's death.

According to California Highway Patrol Tracy Office Spokesman Adam Shelton, Barnett suffered fatal injuries when his 2000 Jaguar convertible drove under a tractor trailer on Sept. 6 at 7:20 a.m. The accident occurred on Interstate 205 near Mountain House Parkway.

"He made a hard right turn and went underneath the trailer," Shelton said.

Jorge Ibarra, 49 of Riverside was the driver of the tractor trailer and was uninjured in the accident.

According to Shelton, no charges were filed on Ibarra.

Speeding, drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be the cause of the accident, he said. The case is currently under investigation, pending the coroner's toxicology report.
