Sprouts & Shutters: Denica's Real Food Kitchen Open

The former Denny's Cafe location is now home to Denica's Real Food Kitchen. The restaurant has opened its third location at 2259 Las Positas Road in Livermore.
Denica's is open from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekends.

The owners of Denica's, known for their baked goods, referred to themselves as the "Cookie Man and the Cake Lady" at the beginning of their business venture over 13 years ago.

Denica's has two other locations, including the original in Dublin and a newer location in Walnut Creek. The Dublin restaurant has been open since July of 2000, according to the Denica's website.

The restaurants are owned by Tri-Valley locals James and Denica Freitas. The restaurant's namesake started out with a business called Cakes by Denica and Cookie Express that offered specialty cakes to the entire Bay Area. James owned the Cookie Express in Castro Valley for 12 years before opening the Dublin Denica's.
