Homeless Oakland Man Steals Glass Truck, Leads Livermore Police on Chase

Livermore streets were closed off for several hours Tuesday morning after a suspect in a stolen glass truck was chased by police and struck three cars before rolling over. 

The suspect, 43-year-old transient Arthur Salvetti from Oakland was arrested for suspicion of vehicle theft, drunk driving, and eluding officers, Livermore Police said in a release. Salvetti is on parole for prior burglaries.  

Livermore Police received a call at 6:54 a.m. about a suspicious person on the 5000 block of Preston Ave., the release said. A second call came in about a suspicious person near the 4700 block of Arroyo Vista. 

According to the release, police observed a large truck with glass racks on its side leave the area quickly. Police attempted to stop the truck but ended pursuit after the truck driver began driving erratically. 

Livermore Police officers were able to immediately take the suspect into custody, the release said. In all, five drivers and passengers of the cars involved in the early morning chase and subsequent collisions were treated at area hospitals for minor injuries.

Livermore Patch received several tips this morning regarding police activity and subsequent road closures.

According to Livermore Police's Nixle.com feed, the area of Las Positas and Bennett Drive have been closed.

Residents have reported a police chase and subsequent car accident. Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department's PulsePoint report an "expanded" traffic collision in the area at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday morning.

According to fire, three engines and a truck were dispatched to the scene.
