Today in America TV Show to Feature City of Livermore

Livermorium, vineyards, Amgen and longest burning lightbulb all contributed television producers taking notice of the City of Livermore.

The City of Livermore will be featured on the Today in America television show on the Discovery Channel, hosted by football great Terry Bradshaw, this Thursday.

According to the City of Livermore website, "The show provides viewers with business news stories, lifestyle features, and in-depth interviews with newsmakers from a variety of industries, including local government."

Mayor John Marchand says the producers approached the City of Livermore officials about being a part of the show.

Marchand wrote, via email:

We played host to the Amgen tour for two years (now three) which put us on the world stage. They were intrigued that Livermore had cutting edge technology with the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Lab and also had the Sandia National Lab, but at the same time, we were the State's oldest commercial wine-growing region. Livermore had been in Newsweek in an article about LLNL having the world's fastest super computer and I pointed out that we also had the world's fastest rodeo. We are a city of contrasts and superlatives.

Our scientists  helped to create a new heavy element, Livermorium, which is named for our city, one of one of only six cities in the world to have their names actually appear on the Periodic Table of Elements.  We have a vibrant arts community and our downtown was recognized as a "Great American Main Street" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The producers interviewed me and the City Manager and two weeks later confirmed that they wanted Livermore on the segment. The producers asked us about special events in our community, schedules and suggested activities that they wanted to include. This is a great opportunity to showcase Livermore, our region and our unique quality of life.  The producers agreed that Livermore has a great story to tell and they wanted Livermore to be part of Today in America.
