Rooster Sauce Causes a Stink

Some like it on sushi, pizza and scrambled eggs--but not in their back yard.

A city of roughly 1,400 in Los Angeles county is suing the producers of Sriracha hot sauce because of the strong smell emanating from the factory, AP news reported Oct. 30.

Huy Fong Foods moved to Irwingdale, Calif. two years ago and built a $40 million dollar 650,000-square-foot factory to process the popular hot sauce, Fox news reported.

The smell has caused headaches, coughing and sneezing as well as watery eyes for folks living within a mile and a half of the factory, the article said.

The smell from the peppers during the three-month harvest season prompted the city to meet with the company earlier this month, who resisted the suggestion to install a $600,000 dollar filtration system, AP news reported.

The city's lawsuit to sue the company will meet in court Thursday.
