$351,000 Awarded to Students

The Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation has awarded $351,000 in scholarships to 121 Livermore students for 2013. The funds are awarded to assist deserving students as they pursue their advanced training and higher education goals at vocation schools, community colleges and universities. Since 2008, the foundation has awarded nearly $2,000,000 in scholarships to over 500 local students.

Each student will receive $1,000 per year for one to four years. The foundation awarded scholarships to 57% of this year’s applicants. “While we are pleased that well over half of the applicants received scholarships, limited funds prevented us from awarding money to all the deserving students which applied,” stated Beth Trutner, Board of Directors Secretary and Scholarship Committee Co-Chair. “Our applicant pool was filled with well qualified students.”

Pedrozzi scholarships have been awarded annually since 2008 to graduates of accredited high schools in Livermore following a generous bequest from Livermore businessman Mario Pedrozzi to the community. Recipient section criteria include the student’s essay responses, school and community service activities, work experience and GPA. This year’s recipients are current students at Granada, Livermore and Vineyard high schools and Las Positas Community College (LPC) in Livermore, as well as other community colleges and universities within and outside of California. In partnership with the Veterans First Program at LPC, the 2013 recipients include ten students studying at LPC following active duty in the US armed forces.

The community is invited to a celebration honoring the 2013 Pedrozzi scholarship recipients. The event will be held Thursday, May 30 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm at the Bankhead Theater Plaza (2400 First Street, Livermore). Besides hearing from many of the 2013 Pedrozzi scholars, attendees will learn more about the foundation and plans to expand its mission beyond only awarding scholarships to students.
