All the best to Anita's! On another note, the new Patch screens are extraordinarily busy. Just look…Read More what's going on between the end of the Anita fire story above and this comments section. The next and related stories are announced and moving across the screen before comments can even be made. Distracting and out of place. The screen is so busy that it is taking longer to load on my computer. And "related stories"? How are these stories related to the Anita's fire? I miss the quick view comments history section. It was a good quick view on multiple story comments and a reminder of what stories were available. I would have left these comments on the posted "new look" announcement but that has disappeared from the screen and look how much stuff you have to wade through and how far down the page you have to scroll before you reach a section that asks for a response to the new format? This format needs a lot of rethinking with simplicity being the goal.

Perhaps a solution is to take them to court. Find a lawyer or legal group that will represent the…Read More residents of the areas that will be effected and keep taking them to court, escalating the level, until they drop it. Granada Mom, I appreciate that you've kept the dialog civil and that you continue to speak your…Read More opinion regarding this. I do, however, have to call you on one thing in your last post. Your accusation that teachers at Granada would have covered up or ignored an accusation by a student is offensive and false. Not only are we legally required to report any accusation of abuse, we're also ethically required.
I find it interesting that you would make such an accusation using the username "Granada Mom". If you are in any way connected to Granada, why don't you be honest and use your real name? The anonymity of online posts is one of the largest contributing factors to online bullying - something many of us try to protect our students from on a daily basis.
If you are concerned about issues of student safety and procedures followed in reporting accusations of abuse, why don't you join School Site Council and work with us to review and improve them?
As for personal friends of Mrs. Johnson being at her sentencing hearing - that's their right. Supporting her during this is also their right. It doesn't affect their teaching. It doesn't affect how they treat their students. It also doesn't mean, in any way, that they condone her behavior. I believe that the purpose of writing letters of support was to speak up about how "out of character" this was. They're not saying that she didn't do it. They're not saying that she doesn't deserve to face the proper punishment for it. They're not saying that what she did was ok.
Perhaps they want to make sure that she gets the support she needs to rehabilitate and not be a repeat offender or stay a part of the prison system? It wouldn't even be known by anyone outside the courtroom if it wasn't gossiped about in Patch comments.
Please help all of us move forward by ending the gossiping and by not making baseless and unfounded accusations.

"Bully" is a very strong word and I'm sure you're not serious about feeling that way by my…Read More attempts to highlight inaccuracies above. I have never used harsh language or belittled anyone in this forum. The fact of the matter is, she did it. Those of you that keep saying what a "great teacher" she was should understand that we live in a world where perception is reality, especially when younger minds are paying attention, and so the simple fact that YOU continue to defend her, implies that you condone it. That you condone a trusted teacher sexually abusing a student in your school. Good thing the victim went to his coach and the people in charge had the integrity to report it. If he had gone to one of her blind supporters, she would still be in a classroom.

I am really disturbed by Granada Mom's constant attempts to bully Marie Johnson's former colleagues…Read More into silence about this. Good people do bad things sometimes, and saying that she was someone you worked with and respected for many years in no way condones her crime.
