"Since signing a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1981, Melvin HAS RODE a roller coaster of success and failure."
Even a sports reporter should know better than this.....

Bob Melvin is the best thing to happen to the A's in MANY years! Love him and the team! How…Read More appropriate it is that the team's "Root Beer Float Day" every year benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation! Most important of all: KEEP THE A'S IN OAKLAND!!!

My feeling is that the NFL attracts a booze-filled out of control element that is much less…Read More prevalent at MLB or NBA games. Security is always an issue at events with lots of people, but the NFL seems to have an overdose of this. The Raiders fans have gotten a bad rap for this over the years, but I think that whole thing has spread to all franchises (yes, the Raiders were ahead of their time). No - $25 tickets won't do it for me, but then again, I am a baseball fan.
Mike S February 12, 2013 at 02:45 pm
I wondered how long it was going to take for ticketmaster to figure this one out. Brilliant…Read More marketing ploy - the tickets will be bought up by scalpers and then resold for $40 - $50 a piece. The Raiders will get their sold out stadium and the scalpers become unofficial ticket agents. You don't think this is true? lol...look at what happened to the Warriors 200 section seats behind the baskets at the coliseum.
The employee/team that designed this promotion is surely up for a promotion - well done.

Palomar,
Well said comment!
There should have been an early pass-interference call on the 49ers as…Read More well.
If the refs had been making calls in the early game, players would have had to play by the rules throughout. Instead they let there be numerous late whistles and late hits (where one guy had the runner stopped with a tackle and then other guys were allowed to hit him--very physically dangerous and with game-changing possibilities of injuries and fumbles) and also over aggressive shoving/fighting after the point (mostly started by the Ravens).
I thought the officiating was poor and changed the nature of the game.
Wasn't this almost the fewest penalty calls that these teams have EVER had? (I'd like to hear those statistics.) Did these teams change that much from their previous season play that they now weren't doing penalties? I doubt it.

The game was very entertaining for fans of both teams. That is why you watch. The 49ers played like…Read More a young team. Flashes of brilliance and moments of stupidity. The non-calls by the refs changed the ebb and flow. Their performance was pathetic and that is supposed to be the 'best' ref crew the NFL has to offer. Bad calls and non-calls never even out. I expect to see the game played by the rules.
I am not sure what the ultimate outcome would have been if it was properly officiated but it most definitely would not have been the same game I watched. What a disgraceful display by the NFL on their biggest stage.

My wish is that some (ok, a lot) of the commercialization be taken out of the superbowl. It can be…Read More sickening. Too many time outs; long ones that can mess up momentum. I am very impressed with Jim Harbaugh's coaching. With the exception of the Seattle game, he was pretty awesome this year.
Jack Rux January 24, 2013 at 04:04 pm
Thanks Kristofer. I have feeling this will be a really good Super Bowl. The key is for the players…Read More of both teams not to get caught up in all the hoopla. A line from one of my favorite country songs "Come From the Heart" sums up what's needed: "You gotta dance like nobody's watching." Even if you there are billions. And I think the 49ers will do that enough to win.

Nope. Not surprised at all to see him get rejected. If Pete Rose isn't in, then Bonds should not…Read More be in. The only thing worse than a cheater is a cheater who lies about it when confronted. Bonds was routinely booed in every stadium outside of the Bay Area, and for good reason. Giants fans have rose-tinted glasses on when it comes to Barry.

How come players can take cortizone shots (steroids) for pain but not the cream for pain?
Total…Read More double standard. Baseball needed Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa after the strike. They wanted players hitting bombs. They NEEDED fans in the stands and what better way than to put on a show. Then they try to play the whole "baseball should be clean" card.
It's MLB's own mess that they've created

This transition has been long anticipated and is a product of strategic planning and infrastructure…Read More development that is entirely consistent with the team's more observable disciplines on the playing field. To understand the DLS program you must realize that Lad guides his team from a foundation of discipline, training and ethic, but without the control and go-fer management so common in prep athletics. It produces a different behavior - one where commitment and community trump performance induced by conformity and outward obligation. Robert Ladouceur's presence is not an irreplaceable blip in history, but simply another chapter in a successful program that has been running for over three hundred years.

De La Salle will continue to thrive. Coach Lad has schooled his successor well(14 years); over 30…Read More players return from 2012; the jv and frosh teams lost only two games total. And Lad remains present for advice/council.
