I was more interested in how Sweet Tarts got reunited, but nobody got around to writing thatRead More article. Maybe next week.

Do you know what is really sad? That the Dublin Patch does not have an article for Dublin HighRead More (which also "won" a silver medal). Dubiln's HS rank was #333 in California, making it two places worse than Livermore High. The reason this is sad is because there isn't a place on their patch for us to go and taunt them.
John Harrington April 23, 2013 at 11:57 pm
You have to compare. How else are you going to know if what is happening is any good or not? NotRead More only do we need to compare with other cities, but we need to compare with other states, and most importantly, with other countries.

@Nate: meanwhile, your bad grammar skills say a lot about you, regardless of whether or not you areRead More in the area. Learn to know the difference between the plural and the possessive forms of a noun before setting to writing and it will make your writing stellar.

Great job Livermore students. Keep it up!!!!!!

continued to Amy Kirby... June 27, 07 a Report was filed with Livermore Police Department Officer D.Read More Martin #69 Report # 07-00665. Numerous documents provided with purpose of showing probable cause for investigation into the background, correct identity and possible fraudulent activity of former Principal TINA DARLENE KIRKLAND KRATTIGER MORRIS of LVCS. Again, all information was disclosed to LVCS board, yet they chose to take NO ACTION! One would hope that Tri-Valley Learning Corporation CEO Bill Batchelor, in his search for a new principal has learned from these past mistakes considering he sat on the LVCS board throughout all of it. Goodday Ms. Amy Kirby, Educated, founded, and thoroughly researched.

continued to Amy Kirby... “Woman sues child's former school: LIVERMORE: Mother saysRead More institution wrongly expelled her son, has unqualified staff and denied her free speech.” http://www.accessmylibrary.com/article-1G1-166816669/woman-sues-child-former.html One needs to question the CA. Dept. of Ed., Charter School Division's lack of background check on these individuals prior to them being let loose among 600 innocent children. Records show that there were countless formal written complaints by numerous people multiple times yet nothing was done. “Charter school principal submits resignation:” http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-166744279.html This resignation took place just shortly after the discovery of what appeared to be two valid social security numbers and dates of birth for the same said person, Principal TINA DARLENE KIRKLAND KRATTIGER MORRIS. LVCS board member K. Hazen had this confirmed by Livermore Police Officer Jim Vestry, yet chose to take NO ACTION.

continued to Amy Kirby..."SAME accountability...as the LVJUSD, they just report directly to theRead More state's board of education." Again, if you had done your "research on how Charter Schools work before you spewed your uneducated, unfounded beliefs on how YOU THINK they operate" public records would prove YOU ARE WRONG! Here are just a couple of ways that the LVJUSD and the Charter School do not have the same accountability: CHARTER SCHOOL LVJUSD ~Denied Students of Special Education Testing ~Will comply within 60 days ~Endorses corporal punishment and public ~NEVER humiliation as a "Valid method of punishment" ~Principal and teachers not required to have ~NEVER California Teaching Credentials ~Hired without background check ~NEVER From the Department of Justice This is just to name a few.... LVCS 2007-Principal TINA DARLENE MORRIS, formerly TINA DARLENE KIRKLAND KRATTIGER of Clovis NM, resigned only weeks after the firing of the executive director. MORRIS whom was hired without any background check and held no California Teaching Credentials, raised concerns with many!! Though she only remained at the school for a year and a half, she acquired lawsuits against her including punitive damages. The case was dropped because a thorough investigation was completed. Get over it.
Mike smith May 10, 2013 at 02:58 am
And for the charges being dropped, blame Pleasanton police for a bad investigation and reportRead More writing. Tell a story, paint a picture... DA's office has to have all facts and evidence from the Pleasanton Police department. Obviously the officers/investigators did a bad job with the entire investigation. Maybe more training is required...hmmmm

This was the first event by the Livermore Cultural Service Council and it was a great success.Read More Thank you to the over four hundred people who volunteered their time and talent to help the Livermore schools. I was over at Junction K-8 with probably forty other volunteers, ages six to sixty. I spent the morning pulling weeds, planting shrubs and flowers. Others were picking up litter and painting. Many of the folks brought their children to show them how important community service is and to lead by example. The children had fun being a part of the effort. It was a beautiful morning and a wonderful cause. Thanks to everyone who participated and for working together to make our community even better. - Mayor Marchand

I heard on a radio news broadcast on Saturday that Boston police were thankful for the Urban ShieldRead More Training they got in CA. Sounded like they used some of what they learned here in the Boston Marathon attack. I would like to hear more about this. Some East Bay County residents were not happy that Urban Shield Training was going on around here in Oct. 2012. If this was helpful in any way in Boston maybe we should be grateful for the Urban Shield Training that Sheriff Ahern designed.

That's more you than the traffic on 580, and that you have gone from "annoying to frustratingRead More to intolerable" all in a single post.
RB Victor April 21, 2013 at 01:21 pm
Can you do a piece on 580 traffic? Over the last 16 months it's gone from annoying to frustratingRead More to intolerable. Why? Is it an anomaly or permanent? What's being done to address it? What impact has the outlet mall had? Does CalTrans realize that building an HOV lane that ends at a "cliff" (also known as the Altamount Pass) is a ludicrous exercise? The current car pool lane is already a full section of the evening parking lot, the only thing gained by this construction is the use of public funds to create employment.

Granada Mom, respectfully, all of my posts (except my original one) were responses to questions;Read More most of which were asked specifically of me. I do actually think before I post. Here are some things you might have missed: 1. In my comment at 9:45 pm on Tuesday, April 23, I wrote to Alan "But, since this debate seems to have very little to do with the original story, maybe there's a better location on the patch to take it?" 2. In my very first post at 10:29 pm on Thursday, April 18, I wrote "I'm disappointed. I'm still shocked that the Marie Johnson I knew could do something like that." I actually wrote an email earlier this year to my principal asking her to encourage others to visit a CA Dept. of Education (CDE) training website on Mandated Reporting that offered great information and examples on exactly what should and shouldn't be reported. I had found the site in a CDE bulletin, visited it, and spent the greater part of an afternoon one weekend completing some key sections of the training as a review. I wanted to make sure it was something that would benefit teachers before recommending it. Now, perhaps you could re-read through everything and see that I've never defended Marie's actions, that I agree that this isn't the best location to debate topics not related to the original story, and that I am willing to discuss any appropriate topic with anyone if it will help myself or that other person learn something from it.
Granada Mom April 24, 2013 at 08:57 pm
Mr. P-W: It's mind-boggling to me how a "teacher among teachers" finds it appropriate toRead More spend time, on the internet, defending or clarifying how great GHS and the LVJUSD, on a comment thread about a deviant teacher that will soon be convicted and sentenced for sexually abusing her student. All this happening right under the administration's nose. Do you even think about the whole situation before you post or are you just interested in self-promotion? I suppose there is nothing wrong with boasting about yourself/your employer but surely you can find the right time and place. This article is not the place. I'm sorry you don't have a work buddy with whom you can ride bikes with anymore but the bottom line is: Marie Johnson WAS a teacher who arrogantly abused her authority AND her student; she is finally paying for what she's done. That's it. Deal with it. A better question for you to answer is, if you really want to keep your spokesman hat on, what have YOU as a teacher, or the school, or district, done to keep this tragedy from happening again? My guess is that you are probably not as ready or anxious to answer that question.

Dave, thank you for the compliment. If you're who I think you are, you have two amazing and talentedRead More boys. If they're saying that I'm amazing, the feelings are certainly mutual. The Document says that a Complaint was called into Licensing on March 12th about this incident...soRead More how did Mike Barris just "find out" about the incident while licensing was there investigating the complaint... And this incident happen in Feb. 2013, why didn't the school do their job and report it whithin 48hours as mandated reporter, that they are suppose to be... The Facts: This pinching incident happen in Feb.2013, and The Tied up incident was reported right away in March...yet they reported the Tie up incident instead of the pinching incident that they have known about for 2 weeks prior...Just seems shady! Seems like certain things aren't adding up...Read the whole report from Licensing, then read what Mike Barris wrote...doesn't add up! For those interested in how much money goes to California education system from the CaliforniaRead More Lottery please see the following link. One needs to remember, when the lottery started and made the promise that funds would roll to education, the lottery commision could not dictate how the funds were spent. Instead of becoming "extra" money, the lottery proceeds become budgeted income. Just think where your property taxes would be without the money flowing from the lottery. http://www.calottery.com/giving-back/how-much-money

The swaddling is not painful. I have seen the swaddling they do at the center and I have seen manyRead More other children being swaddled like this. It is merely to help children sleep peacefully and is in no way harmful. It may have been a violation but they were not harming the children, just trying to make sure they were comfortable and napped. These "restraints" are cloth that are tied around the blanket that keep it in place so the babies feel more comfortable, others are making it sound like leather latches on these babies when that is most certainly not the case. Although people are saying that 3 of the children had upper respiratory problems, when they checked it out, none of the children had been harmed by this swaddling and wouldn't have been. These allegations are ridiculous.

I toured this place last September. Although they were able to sell the product, I did not sign upRead More for these reasons: the person who met with me (Lida, I believe) left the older kids with the maintenance person in the playground (supposedly her husband) in order to show me the place, the infants were clearly mingleling with the toddlers and I saw only two people with a bunch of them (mostly toddlers and a few infants), a few people came in to chat with the teachers that were working there about school issues when all those teachers should have been doing was taking care of the kids, there were almost no toys or activities for the toddlers to play with, I was asked to leave a deposit of 500 $ to reserve a spot for a child that hadn't even been born yet (no other childcare asked me for that), I was told the place was owned by a married couple (now I know, it was a lie since it was managed by these two sisters). I don't know what teachers they had working there, but I am glad that they spoke out. I lament I did not do anything about it. I thought that my background was projecting different standards for childcare centers. Now I know there was something really wrong.

This comes as no surprise to me. I live in Sunset East and three years ago I enrolled my twoRead More daughters in this preschool (ages 3 & 5) because I was working and my oldest was starting Kindergarten at Sunset. I went through the whole process with the owner/director to get them enrolled. She set up a meeting with me on the their first day to get them settled. When I showed up on Monday, she was not there and I was told she was still in Las Vegas from the weekend. I was so uncomfortable there. My girls were put in a class room with two toddler/babies and I was told that other kids would come soon. I left them there for three hours and returned by lunch because I was so uncomfortable about this place. I told them I would not be back. There was something that really seemed off to me. There was no one around to really supervise the teachers. There was no security at the gates for people coming and going. When I picked up my daughters, the infant teacher was out on the playground with her son (the only kid there). I asked her where the infants were and she said they were napping by themselves in the infant room. I have to say, I was really creeped out by this place. I just knew then that something was really not right with them. I feel bad for the parents who are having to deal with this.

I have kids at Centerpointe school and love it. The taping issue was brough to light first by AngelaRead More to her buddies, and then Centerpointe contacted the authorities once they learned of it from the mother....They are being responsible from both moral and legal perspective....they must protect the privacy of ALL parties. Now I recall only seeing two infractions ...dilute bleach cleaner issue and the high school student helping out that upset the required state ratio. You sound like a passionate parent that only wants the best for your kids and to feel comfort of a familiar face when you leave them in the care of the school. I'm right there with you! But can do your best to filter your ""intel" from other's rambling blogs or emails (which I unfortunately had to be a recepient of recently) before you state your "facts". Possibly some teachers left because of the fallout, but I know others left to either care for an ailing parent or because of a career-boosting job offer they couldn't refuse....and we were recipient of both of these teacher's farewell letters. So your statements are not factual or fair to the parents and kids still at the school, the wonderful staff and teachers....let it all be vetted out in a constructive manner, first, and determined not on hearsay in chatroom discussions, etc. Thats fair, yes? How bad will you feel if what you just stated was not true? what then?

We moved to the area about year ago, and was looking for a Presybertian Church. We attendedRead More CenterPointe Church for a couple of months and during that time it was strange that the Pastor would not return any of our calls. He would have someone else email us, and they would direct us to a website. It was strange. The staff did not seem to care about new members. The members did not seem to be friendly or welcoming. We immediately stopped attending the church. They never called to see why we stopped coming. We do not know anything about the Preschool. But it all starts with the person in charge "The Pastor".

Bottom line... Binding a child under your supervision by the hands and feet equals criminalRead More prosecution. Which looks like is what she's going to get. Hop on your self righteous pedestals and berate me if you like. Evidently things aren't going your way anyway.

Oh TG. Your first post was so well put then you join the others in bashing me. Come on now yourRead More better than that. Really well put though. If it was a little piece of tape on her nose obviously not an issue. But she bound the child by the hands and feet with it. Maybe we just agree to disagree, but that, in my opinion, is wrong and criminal when you're carrying for other people's children. Sorry everyone was out having a great weekend with the family. Yes I am a parent, thank you for making yourselves look dumb thinking otherwise. My wife and I had a good chuckle about the fact you were so sure of yourselves. Sound familiar?!? Glad now this case is on the district attorney's desk. Things are moving forward. Outnumbered by the smart folks on here? Hardly. TG put his/her statement very well, while you two say isn't tying up someone else's child funny? And when that didn't work, you two attack me, day I don't have kids, etc. That's what immature people do when they don't have an argument. Sounds like an elementary school playground, "well, well your ugly!" Real mature you two. TG, don't ruin your credibility by starting to slander, it's not becoming of you.

Seriously Steve...Discipline is the parents job and a teacher tying up a two year old with maskingRead More tape that won't take a nap are two seperate things....I agree discipline went out the window with "you can't spank your child", children need guidance and actually seek it out. Although I don't believe a child actually wants to be bound with masking tape...When I was in Kindergarten (1965) they determined that Principals are no longer allowed to spank children in their offices, which used to be acceptable. It no longer is acceptable and it's a parents job to discipline their children and a teachers job to teach them. If this teacher had any experience with 2 year olds at nap time, or she wasn't so immature this wouldn't have happened. Shouldn't have happened...Oh so not funny and definitely inappropriate behavior for a teacher entrusted with other peoples children.

What's really sad is that the adults of today who don't want to fund education were the kids of theRead More past who benefited from a society that was willing to pay for it.
