Celebrating a Half-Century by Giving Back

Resident is set to turn the big 5-0 on Saturday and she plans to celebrate her special birthday by raising funds for the Tri-Valley Haven food pantry.

Save the gifts, please. And oh, scratch that party. Livermore-resident Deborah Talebi has a better idea to celebrate her upcoming birthday. Talebi, who turns 50 on Saturday, has a goal of raising $10,000 for the Tri-Valley Haven food pantry. She'll match up to $5,000 of her own money. She began fundraising at the beginning of the month and has received $2,200 to date from family, friends and others in support of her effort. "I have been donating food to the Tri-Valley Haven food pantry for a few years and have been noticing the lines getting longer and the people more varied," Talebi said. "I wanted to do something for other people for my 50th birthday." Talebi said she enjoys cooking and feeding folks — it used to be her profession as she…

In fact, every 15 minutes, someone in the United States is severely injured or killed in an alcohol-related incident. On May 22nd and 23rd the “Every 15 Minutes” program will be presented to all of Livermore’s 11th- and 12th-grade students. More than 2,000 students will be directly affected by this “anti impaired-driving” presentation. Livermore’s “Every 15 Minutes” program is the largest in the nation.

Police Log: Missed Court Date Leads To Weekend In The Pokey

Notable incidents encountered May 13 to 18.

A 38-year-old woman spent her weekend in the no-bail zone at the Santa Rita Jail after failing to appear in court for vehicle violations. The woman's record shows she failed to appear in court — despite her written promise to do so — for past violations of missing "stoplamps," or brake lights, on a vehicle/trailer and for allegedly driving on a suspended license. She was arrested on a bench warrant Thursday afternoon by the Livermore Police Department, and booked at the Dublin jail, with no bail, to await her Monday arraignment at the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton, filings state. Probably not a great weekend. In other police news: Friday, May 18 Thursday, May 17 Wednesday, May 16 Tuesday, May 15 Monday, May 14 Sunday, May 13
