The May Nissen Community Park and Swim Center opened in 1962 and is named after a longtime Livermore High School English teacher. The land was originally a chicken ranch that was purchased by the city in the 1950s. The twelve-acre park contains a tot lot, group picnic area, barbecue pits, picnic tables, preschool, basketball court, restrooms, horseshoe pits, softball areas, tennis courts, two swimming pools and a dog park.
