Miami Marlins Pick Granada High Senior in Fifth Round MLB Draft


High school senior Casey Soltis has been selected by the Miami Marlins in the fifth round of the MLB draftaccording to the Granada Pride Facebook page.

The Oregonian reported that Soltis, who is currently committed to the University of Oregon, has until July 18 to decide on whether or not to sign.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 195 pound athlete graduates from Granada High School in Livermore this month. Soltis was also named Bay Area Baseball Player of the Year.

Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Superintendent Kelly Bowers told Patch, "We are very proud of Casey Soltis, who is an exceptional athlete.  His athleticism and leadership made him a key part of one of our most acclaimed and outstanding Granada High School Varsity Baseball Teams. As a 2014 Olympian Scholarship Recipient, Casey has proven that he excels in the classroom as well as on the baseball field.  We know he has a bright future ahead of him and many fans in our close-knit Livermore community."
