June 27-30 looms large in the life of Casie Cathrea. The Livermore teen is just 17 years old but will play in the U.S. Women's Open at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.

Cathrea qualified for the LPGA tournament by winning a sectional qualifying event at Lake Merced Golf Club last month. She shot a 36-hole score of 4-under 140.

Cathrea told the Contra Costa Times that she’s she's reached out to two-time U.S. Open champion Juli Inkster for advice. Cathrea believes, "I pretty much have to stay patient."

This will be Cathrea’s third LPGA tournament, quite an achievement for a girl who’s dedicated her life to golf. She has taken golf lessons since the age of five. "I've had some great coaches along the way," said Casie, who also plays out of Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, and is a Blackhawk Country Club merit member.
