Livermore Student Athletes Honored

Outstanding Athletic High School Awards will be airing on Tri-Valley TV

Information from Tri-Valley TV 30--

TV30s Third Annual Outstanding High School Athletic Awards honoring high school athletes from the Tri-Valley took place on Thursday, May 30 at the Robert Livermore Community Center.  Sponsored by Tri-Valley Community Television, the event featured keynote speaker legendary Major League Baseball pitcher Vida Blue.

Throughout the 2012-13 school season an outstanding high school athlete was chosen and highlighted on TV30's weekly program “Tri-Valley Sports Final.” Forty-six winning students and their families were invited to attend the special ceremony and reception.  Over 200 people gathered for the event including the Mayors of Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton as well as elected officials, superintendents, principals, athletic directors and coaches from the high schools.

Hall of Fame member and Cy Young Recipient Vida Blue delivered an inspiring message to the audience for which he received a standing ovation. Blue pitched for the Oakland A's when they won Major League Baseball's World Series and then pitched for the San Francisco Giants.  Also speaking at the event was former 49er linebacker Willie Harper.

For the first time this year, “Tri-Valley Sports Final” selected a high school game each week and awarded it the "Game of the Week".  Awards were presented to superintendents, principals, athletic directors and coaches from the schools.

During the program parents and families watched a video of the student's winning plays as the athletes received their engraved crystal awards from “Tri-Valley Sports Final” hosts Ian Bartholomew and George “Dr. B” Baljevich. The students then shook hands with Vida Blue, Mayor Tim Sbranti of Dublin, Mayor John Marchand of Livermore, and Mayor Jerry Thorne of Pleasanton. Additionally the students were also presented with certificates by Supervisor Scott Haggerty and Senator Mark DeSaulier’s office.

"With all the hustle and bustle of everyday life I am glad we have been able to set aside a special night to honor students and their families for their dedication and hard work,” said Melissa Tench-Stevens, Executive Director TV30.

The Outstanding High School Athletic Awards event was taped and is now airing on Tri-Valley TV  through August 31. The 90-minute show may be viewed on TV28 and 30 and streaming live on the TV30 website at www.trivalleytv.org.
