Granada Boys Basketball Coach Resigns

Mike Wood leaves Granada High after going to the playoffs in three of his five seasons in charge.

After leading the boys basketball program at Granada High School for five years, head coach Mike Wood recently resigned to focus on his family.

Wood took Granada to the playoffs in three of his five years and is coming off a 15-12 season that ended in the first round of the North Coast Section playoffs.

Wood said his wife has been commuting to Sacramento for work and that, along with having a 1-year-old child, it was in the best interest of his family to move closer to the Sacramento area and to take some time off from coaching.

"Probably the hardest part about leaving was saying goodbye to all the kids," Wood said. "We had some great kids and experiences here."

Athletic Director Clark Conover said the school is currently searching for a new coach and will soon be posting the opening online.

The Granada sports program had another coach resign in the fall, when girls volleyball coach Toni Templeman left the program after a successful tenure. Granada is looking for a new volleyball coach as well.
