School District Trustees Adopt Budget

School board moves forward with $97 million spending plan for 2011-2012 school year, awaits state budget information.

However, that plan may change depending on how public education dollars are dished out via the state budget. The district is required by the state education code to meet a July 1 deadline to adopt a budget for the next school year.

More than 90 percent of the district’s revenue and many of its expenditures are determined by the state budget, according to a district staff report.

The district was able to dodge major program and staff reductions this year after making deep cuts in previous years.

Still, school officials may have to look at several cuts next year.

Adult education likely will top any list of possible reductions because its funding is running dry, officials said.
