Las Positas College Reopens Presidential Search

College officials hope to name president in May.

is extending the recruitment period to find its next president.

Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Chancellor Joel Kinnamon recently announced the reopening of the search after the college failed to meet its target of naming a president by March.

The campus has been searching for a campus chief for six months. is heading the college as its interim president and will continue in that capacity until a permanent president is chosen.

The state budget crisis played a role in extending the search.

“In consideration of the California state budget and related uncertainties, it is prudent to take additional time in selecting the next president of Las Positas College,” Kinnamon said.

The chancellor added that such an extension is not unusual in a presidential search.

The search appeared to be nearing an end when officials narrowed a group of candidates to four finalists.

The four at the college in late February.

One of the finalists, Joseph Olsen, was hired as president of Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

District spokeswoman Laura Weaver said each of the four finalists “will remain in active status unless requested otherwise by the candidates” during the extended search.

Officials said they plan to name Las Positas College's president in May.
