The Las Positas College Foundation will present its ninth annual fundraising gala, The Best of the Best, beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts. The black tie affair will offer guests the “best of the best” in performing arts, gourmet food and fine local wine.
“Guests enjoy a lovely evening while supporting the students, staff, faculty and greater community that Las Positas College serves,” said Las Positas College Foundation CEO Ted Kaye, Ph.D. “In the current economic environment of reduced state funding of higher education, this support is critically important to maintaining the college’s stellar reputation of a high transfer rate to four-year institutions and quality vocational/technical training,” he said.
Kaye noted that, during the evening, local civic leaders who are among the best of the best in their communities will be honored. This year’s honorees are:
- John B. Shirley, DVM, Former Mayor of Livermore, World War II veteran and POW
- Charlene and Mitch Sigman, Founders, School of Imagination, Dublin
- Nick Tooliatos, Esq., Major General, U.S. Army Reserve, Pleasanton
Past honorees have included: Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty; former Dublin Mayor Janet Lockhart; ValleyCare Health System President and CEO Marcy Feit; Richard Stulen, Vice President of Sandia National Laboratories, California; and Christine Wente, Fifth Generation Winegrower at Wente Vineyards.
During the evening, guests will have the opportunity to bid on items including wine country meals and adventures; high-end lifestyle packages for professional, cultural and sporting events; and unique service sessions that range from the creation of a legal trust package to home carpet cleaning.
Best of the Best guests will begin the evening “sampling Livermore Valley wines and delicious hors d’oeuvres presented by exceptional Tri-Valley restaurants in the elegant Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts on the Las Positas College campus,” Kaye said.
Midway through the evening, guests will enter the main stage theater for a Performing Arts Showcase featuring student presentations of dance, vocal, music and interpretive speaking. Presentations will be made to the Best of the Best Community Honorees. The evening will conclude with a dessert and champagne celebration of the college and the honorees.
Guest tickets are priced at $125 each and available for purchase online at www.lpcfoundation.org or by calling (925) 424-1010.
