Students Improve High School Exit Exam Results

Nearly 90 percent of Livermore students who took the California High School Exit Exam last year passed.

Nine out of every 10 Livemore sophomores who took the California High School Exit Exam last year passed, according to results released by the state.

Students — who first take the test in 10th grade — must pass the exit exam by 12th grade in order to earn a high school diploma.

  • 89 percent of students tested passed the math portion of the test.
  • 89 percent of students tested passed the English portion of the test.

Assistant Superintendent Cindy Alba said the results each improve on last year's ratings.

"We have a pretty high pass rate, but we would definitely like it to be more," Alba said of the new results.

Both Granada and Livermore high schools have focused on preparing students for the test, Alba said. Examples include practice tests and intervention programs to support students prior to their first attempt at the exit exam.

The district's results exceed both the county and state averages.

Alameda County

  • 84 percent of students tested passed the math portion of the test.
  • 84 percent of students tested passed the English portion of the test.

California

  • 84 percent of students tested passed the math portion of the test.
  • 83 percent of students tested passed the English portion of the test.
