Assistant Superintendent Appointed

Chris Van Schaack is named assistant superintendent for administrative services.

The Livermore Valley Unified School District board of education has appointed a new assistant superintendent. Chris Van Schaack was named assistant superintendent for administrative services on Tuesday.

He replaces Mike Martinez, who retired June 30.

Van Schaack has been with the Livermore school district since 1994 as a teacher, coach, vice principal, principal and executive director of student services and special education.

Van Schaack was the principal at Arroyo Seco when the school was honored as a California Distinguished School.

He then moved to Granada High School and helped lead an improvement in the Academic Performance Index from 706 to 841 as principal.

“We are pleased to have Mr. Van Schaack step into this leadership role," said Superintendent Kelly Bowers. "His experiences as a site and district administrator, coupled with his understanding of our community and the high expectations we have for our schools, place him in an ideal position to support our mission to accelerate achievement for all students.”

Van Schaack, a South Bay native, has lived in Livermore for 10 years. He and his wife, Erin, have three children. One recently graduated from Granada High and two attend Livermore schools.
