Congressman Responds to VA Report Finding Further Review Needed at Livermore Medical Center

The review was triggered by a staff member at the Livermore facility expressing concerns about staff training, according to a statement released by Eric Swalwell.

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-15) released the following statement after the announcement that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto Health Care System, Livermore Division has been cited as requiring further review following a system-wide VA Access Audit:

“Upon learning that today’s audit report found that the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS), Livermore Division requires further review, I called the Acting Director of the VAPAHCS to learn more. I was told that the need for VA’s further review was triggered by a Livermore employee expressing concerns about staff training. While this review is preliminary, it raises further concerns about the care our veterans are receiving.

“Last month, I visited the Livermore facility and was assured by the Director and her staff that while long wait times and access issues are occurring at VA centers across the country, this is not the case in the Bay Area. I await the full report and in the meantime, will independently reach out to veterans in the East Bay to ensure they are receiving the timely and quality care they were promised and have earned.”
