Speed Limit on Stanley Boulevard Lowered

Cap down to 45 mph for streetscaping, bicycle lane project.

A note to local drivers: The speed limit on Stanley Boulevard between Pleasanton and Livermore has been changed from 55 mph to 45 mph.

The new limit comes because contractors are entering a new phase of a construction project to repave the roadway and improve its bicycle route, said Stanley Fung, an engineer at Alameda County Public Works Agency. He said the cap on speed was changed last week to make it safer after contractors removed a median as part of the project.

A sign has been installed in Pleasanton, about 500 feet from the large intersection of Valley and Bernal avenues and Stanley Boulevard.

The county-sponsored project will make the bicycle lane a multi-use route that can be used for biking and jogging, Fung said.  He said the shoulder on both sides of the road also will be widened.

Construction on the project began last winter and is expected to be finished by summer 2012.  The Pleasanton Police Department and Alameda County Sheriff's Office will be notified of the new speed limit, Fung said, which will be enforced until the project is completed.
