Shadow Cliffs Waterslides Closing Forever?

The East Bay Regional Parks District were unable to find a suitable developer to upgrade the slides.

An East Bay Regional Parks committee has recommended shutting down and dismantling the Shadow Cliffs waterslides, Bay Area News Group reported.

After seeking bids for developers to upgrade the slides, the district only received one bid and asked for parks money to complete the project.

Operations committee member Ayn Wieskamp, who represents the area on the committee, was quoted by the Times as saying:

They wanted us to cover 80 percent of the capital development cost...We have no such funds...They were envisioning a much larger attendance and it would overwhelm the neighbors and the park...It just wouldn't work, which is too bad.

About 25,000 people visited the slides a year and it employed 35 youth jobs. The district will likely replace the slides with trails and splash pad water feature for children.

Are you going to miss the slides? Should the district continue to try and find a developer? Let us know in the comments section.

Keep trying! This was such a great destination for the summer, unique to EBRP. It was plenty of fun for the money, much more manageable, kid-friendly for the under-teen set than Water World or big ticket entry places. My sons and I really hope we can return next summer!

Keep the slides open! I hope whoever is in charge of this will take the initiative to make it happen. The slides are great and should remain a part of our community.
